        The Bachelor program in Doctor of Dental Surgery at Prince of Songkla University is designed based on progressivism principles that focus on the holistic development of students. This approach aims to equip students with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. The curriculum emphasizes student-centered learning, blended learning that incorporates problem-based and research-based learning, simulations, and hands-on training to provide practical experience. The program also develops students’ important skills for the 21st century, including communication skills, searching and analyzing data, using information technology, seeking new knowledge, thinking logically and creatively, collaborating effectively, being responsible for themselves and society, and considering the benefits of mankind. The ultimate goal is to produce dentists with knowledge, morals and ethics according to professional standards, able to integrate knowledge and have professional skills and other related sciences to provide comprehensive oral healthcare, prevention, and promotion. 

PLO1 Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in biomedical and basic medical sciences relevant to dentistry.

PLO2 Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to perform professional dental practice at both the individual and community levels in accordance with holistic health principles, which encompass the following 7 specific learning outcomes:

  • PLO 2.1 Effectively utilize drugs and chemicals in dental practice.
  • PLO 2.2 Select appropriate dental materials for clinical use.
  • PLO 2.3 Diagnose, prevent, and treat dental caries, periodontal disease, and conditions affecting the dental pulp tissue.
  • PLO 2.4 Diagnose and deliver uncomplicated treatment for diseases and disorders of the oral tissues, encompassing both hard and soft tissues (beyond dental caries, periodontal disease, and dental pulp conditions), as well as infections and injuries affecting the oral cavity, teeth, bones, jaws, and face.
  • PLO 2.5 Provide uncomplicated treatment for disorders of the bones, jaws, face, occlusion, and masticatory system, as well as to offer preventive guidance.
  • PLO 2.6 Restore and rehabilitate teeth and associated structures.
  • PLO 2.7 Promote oral health and prevent oral diseases at both individual and community levels.

PLO 3 Demonstrate the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for clinical practice, including the ability to assess patients from both medical and dental perspectives, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for diseases and disorders of the oral cavity, jaw bones, face, and masticatory system. They are also capable of referring patients and providing comprehensive dental care at the individual level.

PLO 4 Exhibit the knowledge and skills to practice dentistry with integrity and adhering to the professional code of ethics.

PLO 5 Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct research.

PLO 6 Demonstrate systems thinking and logical reasoning, computer proficiency, and commitment to lifelong learning.

PLO 7 Demonstrate effective communication skills in daily life, including the appropriate use of English for professional purposes.

PLO 8 Demonstrate knowledge and skills in dental practice administration.

PLO 9 Demonstrate an understanding of how to live a fulfilling life and appropriately comprehend social roles.

Round 1/2: 

Project for selecting students with High-Achieving and International Students for the Doctor of Dental Surgery Program

Number of students accepted: 5.

 1. Group of students currently studying in the sixth year of secondary school (Matthayom 6) in the general stream nationwide:

1.1. Have a GPAX (Grade Point Average) for 5 semesters (Matthayom 4 to 6) of not less than 3.50.

1.2. Have a GPA for 5 semesters (Matthayom 4 to 6) with the number of credit units in various subject groups as follows:

1.2.1. Science and Technology: Not less than 3.50 (at least 20 credits).
1.2.2. Mathematics: Not less than 3.50 (at least 11 credits).
1.2.3. Foreign Language: Not less than 3.50.
1.2.4. Thai Language: Not less than 3.00.
1.2.5. Social Studies, Religion, and Culture: Not less than 3.00.

1.3. Have TGAT test results (Code 90) for the academic year 2566 BE (2023/2024).

2. Group of international school students:

2.1. Students currently studying or graduated from an international school, U.S. Grade 12, U.K. Year 13, or NCEA Level 2 (New Zealand system), from international schools both inside and outside the country, with certification evidence for equivalency of educational qualifications from the Council of University Presidents of Thailand Association (CUPT).

Note: In cases where applicants have qualifications differing from those specified, they are subject to the discretion of the committee.

2.2. Have one of the academic ability test scores as follows:

The average of Part 1 and Part 2 must be at least 4.5.

There is no minimum requirement for Part 3.

Graduates must have at least 3 International A-Level passes (ABB or better) in Science and Mathematics subjects. These must include Biology and Chemistry, and either Mathematics or Physics.

Current students must achieve at least 1 A and no grade lower than B in their International A-Level Science and Mathematics subjects, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.

If it is later found that the applicant lacks any of the qualifications or if it is discovered that the information provided in the application form is false, or that the documents submitted as part of the application are fraudulent or counterfeit, the applicant will be disqualified from this selection process, even if they have already applied or passed the selection. Additionally, the applicant may face criminal proceedings according to the law. Round 2:
Project for selecting students from the 14 southern provinces for admission through direct recruitment (regional quota).

Number of students accepted: 30.

 Use the Common Subject Test Scores (A-Level) for Subject Set A:

  • Subject Code 81: Thai Language – Minimum threshold: not less than 30%
  • Subject Code 70: Social Studies – Minimum threshold: not less than 30%
  • Subject Code 82: English Language – Minimum threshold: not less than 30%
  • Subject Code 61: Applied Mathematics 1 – Minimum threshold: not less than 30%
  • Subject Codes 64: Physics, 65: Chemistry, and 66: Biology – The total combined score for all three subjects must be ≥ 30%

For the science and technology group, at least 22 credits are required. For the mathematics group, at least 12 credits are required.

Round 3:
Consortium of Thai Medical Schools group.

Number of students accepted: 15.

 TPAT1 Exam (Specific subject for Consortium of Thai Medical Schools): 30% – Conducted by the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools (COTMES).

Common Subjects A-Level Exam (9 General Subjects): 70% – Conducted by the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT).
